Why Vastu Matters in Andhra Pradesh
Vastu Shastra — the ancient Indian science of architecture — is taken seriously in Andhra Pradesh. A survey of property buyers in Visakhapatnam found that 78% considered Vastu compliance a significant or very significant factor in their purchase decision. Vastu-compliant homes command a 10–18% premium in resale value and attract tenants faster.
Modern architects (including Sanbrik Infra's design team) integrate Vastu principles into contemporary designs without creating awkward room shapes or sacrificing practical living. Here is a practical room-by-room guide.
Plot Selection and Main Entrance
Plot Shape: Square and rectangular plots are most auspicious. Avoid L-shaped, T-junction facing, or irregular plots.
Plot Slope: A plot that slopes toward the northeast is ideal — it allows natural rainwater to flow northeast (the direction of water element). Avoid plots sloping toward the southwest.
- Main Entrance Direction:
- Northeast: Most auspicious — brings prosperity and positive energy
- East: Excellent — sun energy enters the home
- North: Good — governed by Kubera (lord of wealth)
- West: Neutral
- South: Generally avoided, though South-Southeast can be remediated
The main door should open inward (welcoming energy in) and should never directly face a wall, staircase or toilet.
Room-by-Room Vastu Guide
Pooja Room: Always in the Northeast corner. Never in the bedroom or below/above a toilet. The deity should face East or West (devotee faces West or East respectively).
Kitchen: Southeast corner (direction of Agni — fire element). The cook should face East while cooking. Never build the kitchen in the Northeast (water element conflicts with fire).
Master Bedroom: Southwest corner. The couple should sleep with their head pointing South or East — never North. Southwest represents strength and stability.
Children's Bedroom: Northwest or West direction works well for children. East-facing rooms give energy and focus.
Study Room / Home Office: East or North direction. Facing East while studying or working is ideal for concentration.
Bathroom/Toilets: Northwest or West. Never in the Northeast corner (blocks positive energy). Never share a wall with the pooja room.
Living Room: North, Northeast or East direction. The main seating arrangement should face East or North.
Vastu for Structural Elements
Staircase: Ideally in the South, Southwest or West. Clockwise rotation (turning right as you climb). Never in the center (Brahmasthana) of the home. Steps should always be in odd numbers.
Underground Water Tank: Northeast corner — this represents the water element and aligns with the northeast's water energy.
Overhead Tank: Northwest or West direction. Never above the kitchen or pooja room.
Septic Tank: West or Northwest. Never in the Northeast or East.
Generator/Electrical Panel: Southeast (fire/energy element aligns with electricity).
Compound Wall: The southern and western walls should be taller and thicker than the northern and eastern walls — this creates a protective barrier in the heavy energy directions.
Integrating Vastu with Modern Design
At Sanbrik Infra, our architect Praveen Kumar holds a certification in Vastu Shastra from the School of Vastu Sciences, Delhi. We routinely integrate these principles without compromising modern aesthetics:
- Open floor plan living areas in the northeast quadrant naturally create light, airy spaces that feel balanced
- Northeast courtyard (Brahmasthana) doubles as a beautiful skylit atrium
- Southeast kitchen placement naturally aligns with ventilation and exhaust efficiency
- Southwest master bedroom placement provides the best acoustic privacy in most floor plan configurations
Our standard practice: every floor plan review includes a Vastu compliance check — at no extra charge. Contact us at sanbrikinfra22@gmail.com to discuss your floor plan.
